Sandi Ellis, activity director at Life Care Center of Coos Bay, Oregon, went above and beyond to help a resident and her family. When a long-term care resident was passing, her sons could not bear to see her go. Sandi stayed with the resident for nearly eight hours, reading to her and talking to her about good memories they had shared. Sandi did all of this on her own time and held the resident’s hand as she departed. Sandi showed the true love of a friend and made sure the resident did not leave this world alone.

Valentine’s Day 2018 was full of love at Life Care Center of Coos Bay.

Residents and associates alike spread cheer with cards, flowers and chocolates. One resident was even serenaded by a musical quartet that his wife sent him to sing his favorite love songs.

To top it all off, Heather Lusby, dietary aide, made the day even more special for residents....

Kusserow does complete turnaround at Life Care Center of Coos Bay

Wayne Kusserow came to Life Care Center of Coos Bay, Oregon, on Aug. 3, 2017, as a result of acute osteomyelitis, a type of infection, in his right hand.

He was very weak when he arrived and needed maximum assistance for all his self-care activities. Thankfully, he didn’t stay that way, thanks to the team at the facility....

Sarah Winkler, a volunteer at Life Care Center of Coos Bay, received the Oregon Health Care Association Volunteer of the Year Award on Sept. 19, 2017.

The award was presented at the OHCA Annual Convention Awards Luncheon in Portland. Winkler, who is also the wife of Executive Director Jesse Winkler, has been volunteering at Life Care Center of Coos Bay for two years....
