Whatever It Takes And Then Some logo

Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our March 2018 winners:

Sandi Ellis, activity director at Life Care Center of Coos Bay, Oregon, went above and beyond to help a resident and her family. When a long-term care resident was passing, her sons could not bear to see her go. Sandi stayed with the resident for nearly eight hours, reading to her and talking to her about good memories they had shared. Sandi did all of this on her own time and held the resident’s hand as she departed. Sandi showed the true love of a friend and made sure the resident did not leave this world alone.

Themistoklis “Sammy” Pagiatis, occupational therapist assistant at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Houston, Texas, donated 40 vacation hours to a fellow therapist in his department for her maternity leave. He did not hesitate to fill in and help out his co-worker.

Marilou Willette, housekeeping assistant at Life Care Center of Orange Park, Florida, went the extra mile for a resident who was having health problems from her disease. Marilou researched the disease on her own time and notified staff and nurses of the information she had found. She also spent time with the resident, taking her for walks, helping to bathe and dress her and also singing to her. When it was time for the resident to go to a new home, Marilou went with her to make sure she was settled in. She still regularly visits the former resident on her own time to check in and make sure she is OK.
